The Senior Engineering Managers Licence is achievable by completing units 1 and 2 of the Engineering Manager Licence plus any one of 3 units in strategic Management. As with all management licences the evidence provided must be in the Railway S or T context. The normal route would be for the prospective candidate to first gain their Engineering Manager (Lead Engineer) licence (6.8.110) ie units 1& 2 plus one option, then to progress to the Senior Engineering Manager Licence by the addition of one of units 5, 6 or 7.

- have responsibility for substantial programmes and resources
- have a broad span of control
